Objectives

The Directive 2010/31/UE defines the areas of activity that should be undertaken by all member countries. Here are the ones that fit into the project:

  • Identification and formulation of important definitions, such as a building with nearly zero energy or nearly zero emission, a major renovation of the building, the cost-optimal level (energy level that takes into account the minimum costs during the estimated economic life cycle of a building) as well as integrated systems, including especially systems that acquire energy from renewable sources.
  • Estimation of minimum and maximum requirements concerning energy performance for a buildings and building external partitions (in particular the minimum requirements for building envelope, which have a significant impact on energy performance) to achieve cost-optimal levels as well as to validate and refine the proposed solution after the end of the project.
  • Application of renewable energy use, including energy production on site or nearby, should be considered at the early stage of design as the main source of energy for the building and determine its positive, nearly zero or very low energy balance and/or emission.
  • Energy efficiency strongly affects building market and the above listed requirements which are to be achieved over the next few years, permanently outline directions of development and the areas of research

The main concept of the project refuses to the development of the design and technology of the novel fa├žade includes environmental-economic-social and technical elements. All the activities carried out in the project aim to decrease environmental impact of the final product, from reduction of emissions during the manufacturing process to reduction the impact of the product waste will have, however, not only environmental concern but also relevance for the economy of the society and the social situation for the citizens. The project pursue integration of environmental (ecological), social (fairness) and business (financial) objectives of the production and performance of the facade to achieve a balance between ecological and economical requirements.

The central focus of the work is to develop climate protection technologies to increase energy efficiency, by means of fostering energy efficiency in buildings and through the development of innovative approaches to facade technology, to achieve the goal of "zero-emission" buildings.

In order to ensure consistency and based on the principle of equal partnership, the project objectives to be achieved in Poland and in Germany are the same. These are as follows:

  1. to identify current and future technological requirements for energy efficiency in buildings, so as to reduce CO2 emissions and make them more sustainable;
  2. to measure current deficits in energy efficiency in both countries and to develop technologically based integrated renewable energy systems, with a view to maximise the use of daylight and other factors contributing to more climate-friendly buildings;
  3. to develop a set of criteria for optimisation (energy and functionality) based on building performance simulations and to suggest possible architectural solutions, including the construction of optimized, external wall systems for buildings.
